COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course explores rights and responsibilities associated with being an active citizen in a democratic society. Students will explore issues of civic importance such as healthy schools, community planning, environmental responsibility, and the influence of social media, while developing their understanding of the role of civic engagement and of political processes in the local, national, and/or global community. Students will apply the concepts of political thinking and the political inquiry process to investigate, and express informed opinions about, a range of political issues and developments that are both of significance in today’s world and of personal interest to them
Outline of Course Content
Unit 1: Introduction to Civics and Citizenship
In these unit, students will delve right into the topics of citizenship, and explore the meaning of being an active member of civilization. Of course, part of citizenship is the ability to participate in the community, and this cannot be done without proper communication skills. Thus, one of the main aspects of the unit and this course is the development of student’s communication skills. Students will also learn about government, rights, and freedoms.
Unit 2: Being Citizens of the World
In this unit, students will explore the impact that technology has had on international business. Particularly with respect to how it has accelerated the expansion and change of international markets. You will identify multinational corporations and explore the impact that currency has on international business
Culminating Activity & Final Exam
Students will create a business plan and conduct thorough research in a multi-step process to outline their plan. Students will also write an exam that covers all expectations. Culminating Activity – Developing a Campaign Report and Brief (P/O) Final Exam – Covers all overall expectations.
Final Mark will be determined following percentages:
70% Determined by the evaluations conducted throughout the duration of the course:
Products – Assignments, Essays, Journals, Portfolio
Observations – Presentations
Conversations – Conference with the Teacher
30% Final examination of the students and/or a Culmination Assignment
