COURSE DESCRIPTION
The expectations for this course are organized into three distinct but related strands. Strand A, which focuses on developing the skills and habits students need for success in planning and in meeting their goals, must not be seen as independent of the other strands: Instruction and learning related to the expectations in strand A are to be interwoven with instruction and learning related to expectations in strands B and C, and students’ achievement of the expectations in strand A must be assessed and evaluated throughout the course.
Outline of Course Content
Unit 1: Who are you?
Welcome to Career Studies, a course that is totally focused on you! Knowing yourself is as important as looking for a job, or choosing a career path; through this course, you will understand who you are, and envision who you are going to be, by conscientiously considering and planning your career/life goals after graduating from high school. In unit 1, you will explore your interests, aptitudes, and skills, as well as understand the importance of setting goals in life. You will begin to recognize what skills you have developed and will need to develop in order to pursue your career/life choices. Unit 2: The World of Work and Me Unit 2 is focused on making decisions and exploring opportunities. You will learn about current work trends, and analyze how these trends are changing the work we do. In this unit, you will use the knowledge that you discovered about yourself during unit 1, and continue making your career/life decisions.
Unit 3: Your Pathways of Life
This is the final unit of the course! This unit will be focused on achieving your goals and making transitions. You will learn essential financial literacy and understand the financial options you can make in order to make realistic and attainable career and life choices. By the end of this course, you will be more prepared and confident to enter the world of work.
Culminating Activity Final Exam
Final Mark will be determined following percentages: 70% Determined by the evaluations conducted throughout the duration of the course: Products – Assignments, Essays, Journals, Portfolio Observations – Presentations Conversations – Conference with the Teacher 30% Final examination of the students and/or a Culmination Assignment
